The Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) MC Unification (KCP-PWG MC Unification) has dismissed the “Homecoming Ceremony” held at Mantripukhri Garrison on July 21 as a “staged” event, alleging that no active cadre of the outfit participated in the surrender programme.
In a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, Chingkheinganba, the outfit claimed that the ceremony, organised by the Assam Rifles and the Defence Wing in the presence of the Manipur Government, was intended to tarnish the image of the organisation through what it described as a “fake surrender.”
The outfit asserted that under the leadership of Chairman Lamyanba Khuman and Vice-Chairman Poirei Meitei, none of its Central Committee members or active cadres had surrendered. It claimed that all its members remained with the organisation along with their weapons.
Referring to the individuals who participated in the ceremony, the KCP-PWG MC Unification alleged that they were not active members of the outfit but persons who had either been expelled earlier or had already been living at their homes. It specifically alleged that the individual identified as former chairman Tam-Nganba (Laishram Ranjit) and others accompanying him had been expelled from the organisation over allegations of drug abuse, theft and misconduct.
The outfit further alleged that the uniforms worn by the 42 participants and the weapons displayed during the ceremony had been provided by the Assam Rifles to project the event as a genuine surrender. It also questioned whether the weapons displayed had actually been deposited with the State Government.
The KCP-PWG MC Unification alleged that the ceremony was organised to create the impression that the insurgency in Manipur was coming to an end and peace was returning to the State. It urged the public to remain vigilant against what it termed “deceptive programmes” and reiterated that the surrender had no impact on the organisation.
