S. Mangal, Member-in-Charge of Information and Publicity of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), has issued a clarification stating that the organisation and its armed wing have no involvement in the alleged collection of Rs 20,000 from Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) at Torbung.
In a statement, S. Mangal said reports had circulated claiming that money was forcibly collected from IDPs in Torbung in the name of the KCP. However, the organisation clarified that the individuals who collected the amount are not members of the KCP or its armed wing, Miyamgi Fingang Lanmi (MFL).
The statement noted that many people displaced by the violence that erupted on May 3, 2023 continue to face hardship, living in temporary shelters without stable homes or livelihoods. In such circumstances, forcibly collecting money from displaced families instead of assisting them is unacceptable and against humanitarian values, it said.
According to the organisation, the matter has been taken seriously and an inquiry was conducted through its Lamhangdong local unit under the supervision of the district commander. During the inquiry, details of the individuals allegedly involved in collecting the Rs 20,000 and the phone numbers used in the process were identified.
The statement named the individuals as Chingkheihunba Singh, whose banking name is listed as Soyam Chingkheihunba Singh, with the payment reportedly made on February 26, 2026; Konthoujam Niraj, also known as Ibai Sharat Meitei; Isaren; and Corcom Chalamba Wahengbam. It also stated that the phone calls related to the alleged collection originated from the Patsoi area.
S. Mangal further urged all individuals involved in the incident related to the Torbung IDPs to appear before the organisation immediately.
