The KCP (Apunba) group has accused officials of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bishnupur, of corruption and alleged irregularities in the appointment of its Senior Scientist and Head, Khangembam Brajamani Meitei, demanding his resignation within five days.
In a statement issued by its Publicity Secretary, Punsirol Meitei, the group alleged that Brajamani had been holding the post using an invalid PhD degree certificate obtained from CMJ University, Meghalaya. It questioned how he secured admission to the university in 2017 and obtained the degree in 2021, despite the Meghalaya Government having ordered the university’s dissolution in 2014 following a court ruling.
The group also alleged that KVK Bishnupur Chairman Th. Chaoba Singh and Th. Basanta were involved in facilitating Brajamani’s appointment despite the alleged invalidity of his academic qualification.
Describing the alleged irregularities as serious, the group asked Brajamani to resign voluntarily on moral grounds within five days. It also called upon other individuals allegedly holding teaching positions in colleges and universities in Manipur with certificates from the dissolved university to step down.
The statement further claimed that the KVK office had remained paralysed for a considerable period and warned that restrictions imposed on its functioning would be withdrawn only if the institution resumed operations in a lawful and proper manner.
It also appealed to KVK staff to stop attending the office, warning of consequences for those who acted against the group’s position. The group claimed to have identified several individuals allegedly involved in similar irregularities and urged them to admit their actions voluntarily.
