Kangpokpi DC issues eviction order against illegal encroachers

Kangpokpi Deputy Commissioner Mahesh Chaudhari, IAS, has directed the removal of all unauthorised structures and encroachments along National Highway-02 (Imphal–Kohima Road) and National Highway-37 (Imphal–Jiribam Road), including footpaths, within the district by 3:00 pm on August 28, 2025.
According to an official order issued on August 12, the action follows reports from the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), field officers, and on-site observations indicating the presence of various unauthorised constructions such as house extensions, shops, sheds, and other permanent or temporary structures. The DC noted that these encroachments have been causing public inconvenience, obstructing smooth traffic flow, and posing safety hazards to commuters and the general public.
Exercising powers under Section 15(1) of the Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms Act, 1960, and Section 3 of the Manipur Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, 1978, the DC ordered all concerned encroachers to remove the structures, items, and debris before the stipulated deadline.
The order warned that failure to comply would result in strict penal action, including eviction, demolition, and removal by the district administration. The costs incurred for such removal or demolition would be borne by the encroachers, it added.
