Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War opens Tripura branch

The Justice Committee on Anglo-Manipuri War – 1891 Martyrs & Freedom Fighters of Kangleipak (Manipur) has expanded its reach by inaugurating a Tripura branch today. The office bearers of the newly opened branch were administered the oath of office by the Committee Chairman, Joychandra Konthoujam. Those who took the oath included Sinam Dipak Kr. (Advisor), Ksh. Dhanajit Singh (President), M. Baladeb Singha (Vice President), P. Sanjoy Singh (General Secretary), Elangbam Sanjoy Singh (Organisation Secretary), and L. Nilkamal (Finance Secretary).
Speaking at the occasion, Joychandra Konthoujam said that people naturally settle where they are born – those born in Manipur settle in Manipur, those born in Tripura settle in Tripura, while many from Manipur have settled in Assam, Tripura, Bangladesh, and Burma. He emphasized that the history and sacrifices of Manipuri people, especially during the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891, must be remembered and honoured.
He said that the war was a response to British attempts to interfere in Manipur’s political system, targeting the king and other leaders, and that Manipuri people stood united to defend their homeland. Konthoujam highlighted the Committee’s mission to preserve the legacy of Manipuri martyrs, educate younger generations about their history, and safeguard Manipur’s cultural and political heritage. He also stressed that the Committee seeks to promote justice, social awareness, and respect for the memory of those who sacrificed their lives to protect the state.
The Committee aims to ensure that Manipuri identity, history, and struggles are recognised and remembered, while guiding the community against modern threats such as drug abuse and political manipulation that undermine societal integrity. Konthoujam concluded that the Committee’s work is vital to preserve Manipur’s past and inspire pride and responsibility among present and future generations.
