Joykumar Thokchom from Khangabok in Manipur’s Thoubal district has been named among the inventors of a newly patented technology in the United States for a “Hybrid lithium metal cell with ionic liquid integrated cathode.” The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued Patent No. 12,388,079 on August 12, assigning it to Sakuu Corporation, San Jose, California.
The invention was credited to Joykumar Thokchom (Marietta, Georgia), along with co-inventors Ali Modjtahedi (Santa Clara, California), Yongtao Meng (Fremont, California), Aditya Upreti (San Jose, California), and Muhammad Tariq (San Jose, California).
According to the abstract released by the USPTO, the patented method involves manufacturing a calendered cathode structure for a hybrid lithium metal cell by depositing a first cathode coating layer without ionic liquid onto a cathode current collector, followed by a second cathode coating layer with ionic liquid. The innovation is expected to enhance energy storage capacity and efficiency, marking a significant advancement in battery technology.
Dr. Thochom Joykumar S Singh, currently serving as a Research Physicist in the Electrochemical Power Group of the Metals and Ceramics Division at the University of Dayton Research Institute, Ohio, has been contributing to cutting-edge research in electrochemical power systems.
The recognition underscores the growing role of Manipuri scientists in global innovation and advanced energy solutions.
