Imphal, July 16: Authorities of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) today produced white paper on regularization of two professors namely M Angouba Singh and Dr L Deben Singh during a press conference held today at JNIMS.
Authority of JNIMS produced the white paper following a banned armed outfit, Kangleipak Communist Party (Poirei Meitei Lup) threatening to call statewide general strike with effect from July 20 midnight alleging misconduct in regularization of two professors of JNIMS, who were working on contract basis.
Speaking to media persons, spokesperson of JNIMS, Dr Mohen said that the decision to regularize two professors were taken during the 21st Meeting of the Governing Council, JNIMS society held on 19 February, 2015 under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh.
Regarding the regularization of the two professors, the spokesperson said that they were regularized as Professors after they forfeit their pension benefit after retirement and in accordance with the decision of the General Council. The service of teaching faculty can be retained upto the age of 70 years as per requirement of the JNIMS. The eligibility for retention of faculty members beyond 65-years will be based on vacancy and assessment of teaching efficiency, aptitude and physical conditions in two slots- 65-68 and 69-70.
While the three other persons namely Dr H Lokendro Singh, Dr T Rajen Singh and Dr M Shyamo Singh were retired from their respective posts and availing post-retirement pension benefits currently, there would not be consideration for regularization of the trio who joined JNIMS on contract basis.
In his response to the news reports alleging ‘misconduct in regularization of professors’, Director of JNIMS, Dr L Deben Singh said that the two persons were regularized in compliance with the decisions taken during the 21st Meeting of the Governing Council, JNIMS society.
He also appealed the concern groups and individuals to stop tarnishing the image of the government-run medical institute and withdraw the proposed general strike called by KCP- Poirei Meitei Lup in view of the hardships faced by the general public.
