JJM funds misappropriated in Khongman GP: Schools and Anganwadis left thirsty despite official claims

Despite the government declaring the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) a success on paper, children in Khongman Gram Panchayat continue to struggle for basic drinking water, exposing glaring discrepancies in implementation and raising serious questions about fund misappropriation.
Official records state that Khongman GP has completed works in 27 Anganwadi centres and 4 primary schools, receiving Rs. 5 lakh under the scheme. However, multiple Anganwadi workers and primary school teachers revealed that no water connections have been installed at their centres, and they have received no information or updates about the project.
Shockingly, even the National Children School, which is listed in the official JJM records, does not have a single functional water tap. The official list of 31 sites under Khongman GP appears to exist only on paper, calling into question the integrity of project execution.
Local whistleblowers and community members allege that funds meant for providing safe drinking water to children have been misused or diverted, turning the scheme into one of the biggest scams in Manipur. Public outrage is mounting as children continue to be denied the very basics of safe drinking water despite government declarations of success.
Dr. Akoijam Bimol, MP, who had earlier exposed irregularities in the JJM implementation, has demanded immediate investigation and action against officials responsible for the apparent misappropriation of funds.
With children’s health and education at stake, the Khongman Gram Panchayat case underlines a disturbing pattern of fund mismanagement and lack of accountability in state-run welfare schemes.
