JFD Women Wing gets support of 4 more MLAs on ‘No NRC, No Census’ campaign

The Women Wing of the Justice and Fair Delimitation (JFD), Manipur, has claimed to have secured the signatures of four more MLAs in support of its campaign opposing the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) based on the 1951 register and the conduct of the Census in Manipur until the NRC issue is resolved.

The signatures were obtained today, the concluding day of the JFD’s campaign, during which the organisation submitted a five-point memorandum to MLAs and sought their positions on the issues.

According to the JFD Women Wing, the campaign was organised as part of its ongoing “No Nrc, No Census” movement. The organisation also submitted a declaration form to the MLAs seeking their support for its demand that the Census operation in Manipur should not be undertaken until the NRC based on the 1951 register is updated and the concerns raised by the organisation are addressed.

The three MLAs who signed the declaration today, according to the JFD Women Wing, are Thangjam Arunkumar of 15-Wangkhei Assembly Constituency, Kongkham Robindro Singh of 23-Mayang Imphal Assembly Constituency, Thongam Shanti Singh of 27-Moirang Assembly Constituency and Soraisam Kebi Devi of Naoriya Pakhanglakpa, Assembly Constituency.

The JFD Women Wing maintained that the campaign was aimed at securing public representatives’ positions on the proposed NRC and Census-related issues and placing those positions on record.

The organisation said it would continue to pursue its demands concerning the NRC, the 1951 register and the proposed Census exercise in Manipur.
