JFD Women Wing continues to seek MLAs’ stand on NRC, Census

The Women Wing of the Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation (JFD), Manipur, said three MLAs signed a declaration supporting its demand against the conduct of the Census in Manipur until the 1951-based National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated.

The campaign was held on the seventh day of the JFD’s ongoing “No NRC, No Census” movement. The women’s wing submitted a five-point memorandum to MLAs and sought their views on the issue.

According to the organisation, it also submitted a declaration form seeking support for stopping the census operation in Manipur until the 1951 NRC is updated and the issue is resolved.

The three MLAs who signed the declaration on October 8 were Tongbram Robindro Singh, MLA of 28-Thanga Assembly Constituency; Okram Ibobi Singh, MLA of 31-Thoubal Assembly Constituency; and Surjakanta Okram, MLA of 35-Khangabok Assembly Constituency.

The JFD Women Wing said the MLAs expressed support for the issue raised by the campaign and signed the declaration, which was enclosed with the memorandum as an annexure.

The campaign was led by Sougrakpam Sumati Devi, Convenor of the Women Wing, Campaign for Just and Fair Delimitation, Manipur.
