The Women Wing of the Campaign for Just & Fair Delimitation (JFD), Manipur, has intensified its signature campaign seeking legislators’ positions on the “No NRC, No Census” demand.
During the campaign, the women’s wing submitted memoranda and declaration forms to MLAs, urging them to endorse the demand for withholding the Census operation in Manipur until the 1951 National Register of Citizens (NRC) is updated and the issue of illegal immigration is addressed.
Kumbi Assembly Constituency MLA Sanasam Premchandra, Khetrigao MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan and Patsoi MLA Sapam Kunjakeshor reportedly signed the declaration forms supporting the demands.
The campaign is being led by JFD Women Wing convenor Sougrakpam Sumati, along with Core Committee members Laishram Bimola, P. Sobita and W. Phulka.
The JFD campaign comes amid continuing demands in Manipur for the 1951 NRC to be used as the base year for identifying the state’s indigenous population and addressing concerns over alleged illegal immigration.
