Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has threatened to boycott assembly session if an appropriate bill to protect the indigenous people and land of Manipur is not passed in the ongoing assembly session by March 2. Co-convenor of JCILPS said the cabinet ministers of the state are not sincere and must resign from their posts.
Speaking to media in a press conference today at the head office of JCILPS at Nongmeibung, Imphal, Convenor, JCILPS, Ibotombi Khuman said that after a meeting was held at the Secretariat on Feb 18, 2015 with all the cabinet ministers, All Manipur Political Party and legal experts, a dummy law called ‘the Manipur visitor’s and tenant’s law 2015’ was prepared. The chief minister himself had earlier assured to introduce the dummy bill in the assembly however Ibotombi added that even after three assembly sessions have been passed the matter was not tabled in the session.
Co-convenor, JCILPS, Khomdram Ratan said that the government should table an appropriate bill to protect the indigenous people and land of Manipur on March 2. He threatens to boycott the last day of the Assembly session if the government failed to do so. Blaming the ministers and MLAs for their insincerity to protect the indigenous people of the land Ratan demanded resignation from their posts.
As a reminder to the government JCILPS said that they will organise sit-in-protest at various places of Manipur. Ratan further added that as government has failed to check the illegal migrants the JCILPS has decided to act in its own course. He said those non locals without proper valid documents issued by the JCILPS will be driven out of the state from March 3.
