The Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of the All Manipur Trade Unions’ Council (AMTUC) and the All Manipur Government Employees’ Organisation (AMGEO) has announced that the ongoing cease-work strike by government employees will continue, stating that the Manipur Government’s decision to enhance Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) by 3% is inadequate.
In a statement issued by JAC President R.K. Basumani Singh, the council welcomed the State Government’s decision to restore Saturday holidays by withdrawing its earlier order cancelling weekly holidays. However, it maintained that the decision does not address the employees’ primary demand.
The JAC said the government has increased DA/DR from 42% to 45% with effect from July 1, 2026, whereas Central Government employees and pensioners have been receiving 60% DA/DR since January 1, 2026. It reiterated its demand that Manipur Government employees and pensioners be granted DA/DR at par with their Central Government counterparts.
The council stated that it had submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary on July 15, seeking implementation of the pending DA/DR.
Maintaining that the government’s announcement was unacceptable, the JAC said the cease-work strike would continue until its demands are addressed.
Meanwhile, an Emergency General Council Meeting has been convened on July 22 at 11 a.m. at the JAC office in Babupara to deliberate on the future course of the agitation, pending demands and other related issues.
