A Joint Action Committee has been formed following a public meeting held at Kwakta Bazar today to demand justice in connection with a hit-and-run incident that claimed the lives of two residents of Kwakta. The deceased have been identified as Mohamad Tajuddin Chesam and Mohamad Salauddin Khutheibam.
The public meeting strongly condemned the incident and announced the formation of the JAC against the Brutal Hit-and-Run Killing of Mohamad Tajuddin and Mohamad Salauddin. Both victims reportedly died after being struck by a speeding vehicle while on their way to labour work in the Khonghampat area in the early morning hours between 5.30 am and 6.30 am of December 31, 2025. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of Sekmai Police Station.
Addressing reporters at Kwakta Bazar, Joint Action Committee co-convenor Rahaman Buyamayum stated that various civil society organisations of Manipur, AAMSO, AMPACO, MMWO, Jamiat Ulama of Kwakta, Anjuman -e- Muashra, AKYVO, AMPYA etc., among others, have extended support to the bereaved families.
He condemned the incident, stating that the vehicle involved fled the scene without checking the condition of the victims. He further said that although Manipur Police have been investigating the case and attempting to trace the vehicle involved, no breakthrough has been made so far.
The JAC announced that the post-mortem examinations of the two deceased would not be allowed until the vehicle involved and those responsible for the incident are identified and arrested. The committee also warned of launching various forms of agitation if the police fail to make progress in the case or trace the culprits by January 3.
The press meet was attended by Joint Action Committee co-convenor Pukhrimayum Sadam and members including Moulana Abul Kalam, Haji Ahamed Khan, Abdul Barik, Hanif Shah, Najir, and M V Ayajuddin.
