The Joint Action Committee Against the Brutal Murder of Meisnam Khaba (Ibomcha) and the Village Volunteer Force at Koutruk on January 30, 2024, has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Manipur. They are demanding the abrogation of the Suspension of Operation with the Kuki militants and the punishment of those involved in the murder of Village volunteer Meishnam Khaba within 48 hours. Along with this demand, they have also presented six other demands. The JAC has stated that they will not accept the body of Khaba until these demands are fulfilled.
The JAC was formed during a meeting held today at Sagoltongba, with representatives from various Civil Society Organizations in attendance. Ngangbam Chingkheihanba Meitei has been appointed as the Convenor of the JAC.
The other demands that have been submitted to the Chief Minister include the deployment of adequate state security forces to the peripheral area, immediate implementation of the NRC, assurance of ex-gratia to the next of kin of the late Meishanam Khaba’s family, a government job, and the removal of the 22 Assam Rifles from the Koutruk area.
The memorandum states that the JAC and the family of the deceased will not accept the body until their demands are met. The JAC has also stated that if their demands are not fulfilled, they will launch an intense democratic agitation.
