JAC demands action against Barish after maskmen firing injures five

In the wake of a shocking incident at Sega Road, Khwairakpam Leikai, Imphal, where five individuals were reportedly injured due to gunfire, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been established. The committee fervently demands the arrest and appropriate legal proceedings against Manoharmayum Barish Sharma, the former president of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Allegations have surfaced that Sharma, in collaboration with several unidentified masked men, played a pivotal role in this violent episode. The event has stirred significant unrest, with many awaiting a swift response from law enforcement agencies.
Chongtham Iboyaima, the Convenor of the Joint Action Committee Against Indiscriminate Firing on Innocent People, elaborated on the root of the conflict during a press briefing. “A few days back, a disagreement transpired between Bobo Khaidem, a resident of Khwairakpam Leikai, and former BJYM President Manoharmayum Barish,” he stated. Iboyaima further described the harrowing events of the previous night, recounting, “Around 11 pm, several masked assailants arrived in multiple vehicles at Bobo’s residence, with an intent to abduct him. As Bobo’s wife and nearby residents intervened, pleading for a peaceful resolution, these men responded with unrestrained violence, opening fire and grievously wounding five individuals, including a woman. All the injured are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital.”
In a follow-up to his initial statement, the Convenor of the Joint Action Committee firmly urged the Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, to ensure the capture of the gunmen by 2 pm on 16 October 2023. Iboyaima emphatically stated, “The Government bears the responsibility for covering the medical expenses of the injured.
With the state in such a pivotal juncture, it is of utmost importance that incidents of this nature are prevented in the future. The Home Department should rigorously act against these armed men who’ve been a source of terror across various regions of Manipur. It’s a matter of grave concern that the former BJYM president has been implicated in multiple such incidents. One has to question the frequent involvement of BJP figures in such controversies.”
Offering additional information to the journalists present, the Convenor disclosed, “The local youth managed to apprehend a two-wheeler vehicle involved in the incident. Preliminary checks reveal it is registered to Ningombam Ajitkumar, son of Maipak, from Brahmapur Laljilakpa Leikai.” He then issued a stern warning to the administration: “Should the government remain passive and not detain these culprits, the JAC is poised to stage protests against such government inaction.”
The Joint Action Committee further disclosed that they have officially lodged an FIR with the Imphal Police Station concerning the incident. In addition to this, a memorandum detailing the grievous event and the JAC’s demands is set to be presented to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh for his immediate attention and action on the matter.
