Imphal, Dec 5:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed to address the disappearance of Laishram Kamalbabu, 54, met with Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh today, expressing their dissatisfaction with the efforts of the 57th Mountain Division in locating the missing man. The JAC announced their intention to escalate the matter by seeking a meeting with India’s Defence Minister, citing a loss of faith in the army’s local authority.
Speaking at the Manipur Press Club following the meeting with the Chief Minister, a JAC representative and a relative of Kamalbabu highlighted their concerns. According to the family, Kamalbabu, who worked within the army campus at Leimakhong, went missing under circumstances that remain unexplained. The relative lamented that despite assurances of safety within the army premises, Kamalbabu has been untraceable for over 10 days.
The JAC alleged that the army has shown reluctance to cooperate fully with the search efforts or engage meaningfully with the family and JAC. “The silence and inaction of the army authorities are deeply troubling and add to our anguish,” the relative said.
During their meeting with the Chief Minister, the JAC, accompanied by Kamalbabu’s wife, presented their grievances and urged immediate intervention. The Chief Minister reportedly assured the delegation of the state government’s full cooperation and pledged to take all necessary steps to locate Kamalbabu.
Frustrated by the lack of progress, the JAC appealed to the people of Manipur to unite and organize a statewide agitation to press for action. “This is not just about one man; it is about ensuring justice and accountability,” a JAC member stated, urging collective support to find Kamalbabu and hold the concerned authorities accountable for their apparent negligence.
The JAC’s push to meet the Defence Minister reflects their determination to escalate the matter to the highest level, as they continue their efforts to uncover the truth behind Kamalbabu’s disappearance.
