Counterfeit liquor manufacturing factory in Manipur busted by police team

Soon after Dr, S Ibomcha took charge as Superintendent of Police, Thoubal district in Manipur, a highly trained police team comprising of women police led by Officer –in Charge N. Sadananda busted a manufacturing factory of Counterfeit Indian made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) at Thoubal Athokpham area in Thoubal district of Manipur. Huge quantity of liquor – both packed with branded label of some IMFL and raw items for packing were seized from the illegal liquor manufacturing factory.

Talking to media persons at Thoubal Police station, District Superintendent of Police Dr. Ibomcha said that the raid was conducted at around 5 pm yesterday after receiving specific information about the existence of the liquor factory at the residence of Thokchom (Ningol) Changammayum (Ongbi) Roji Devi (25) wife of Changangmayum Badalkumar Singh at Thoubal Athokpam Awang Leikai.

In the raid, 10 Jerri cans (20 litres capacity each) containing unknown chemical liquid suspected to be used in producing counterfeit liquor; 120 bottles of local made Rum bottle; 1570 bottle caps; 200 numbers of empty bottle; 4 number of wooden frame for screen printing; 7 number of cans containing Rolex ink black colour and an Aluminum pot having red color liquid for dying, one tong  were recovered.

Talking to media persons SP Dr. Ibomcha said that the chemical used by the manufacturer could not be known at the moment but he ascertained that those chemical used would do no good to human health. On the other hand Dr. Ibomcha said that there were incidents where many people died after consuming such liquor at Jorhat and Golaghat.

Drive against illicit liquors and drugs began since last week of February after convening a meeting of the Thoubal police. Chemicals and Rum seized from the manufacturing home have not been treated as liquor and hence a criminal case will be taken up against the husband and wife.

Sample of the Chemical seized has been sent to Foot Safety & Standard Enforcement Wing”, Thoubal district, Dr. Ibomcha added.

Label like “For Sale to Para Military Force Only” and “Not for Sale in Assam” were tactfully stamped in the bottles.
