The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Manipur State Branch, today held a felicitation ceremony at its MG Avenue office to honour volunteers from the State and District Branches for their dedicated service during the recent floods that affected several parts of Manipur.
The programme was graced by Dr. R.K. Nimai (Retd. IAS), Vice President of IRCS Manipur State Branch; Narendra Ningomba, Chairman; Dr. Nevedita Lairenlakpam (IAS), Deputy Commissioner of Imphal East and President of the Imphal East District Branch; and Dr. Yanglem Mohen, former Chairman of the Society.
In her address, DC Dr. Nevedita Lairenlakpam lauded the commendable efforts of the Red Cross volunteers who extended timely humanitarian aid during floods and other disasters in the state. She noted that the Society, in coordination with government agencies, provided crucial assistance to affected people. She also underlined the importance of spreading awareness about the spirit of volunteerism, describing it as the foundation of humanitarian service.
Dr. R.K. Nimai acknowledged the vital contributions of the IRCS in disaster response and relief activities across Manipur. He highlighted that former MP Dr. R.K. Ranjan and MP Dr. Bimol Akoijam had donated ambulances to the Society, while Dr. Bimol also provided two boats to aid rescue operations in flood-hit areas, with additional vehicles expected to be provided soon.
He said volunteerism is not just a role but a lifelong commitment to serve humanity, stressing the need to train and empower new volunteers while upholding the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross.
During the function, volunteers from Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching District Branches who actively took part in flood relief and rescue operations were honoured with citations and mementos in recognition of their service.
