Iputhou Marjing Expo 2025 kicks off:  N. Biren Singh calls for restoration of popular government

The inaugural ceremony of the Iputhou Marjing Expo – 2025 was held today at the Marjing Polo Tourism Complex, Heingang in Imphal East district, drawing attention from across business, cultural, and political circles. Organized by the Centre for Research on Environmental Development (CRED) and the North East Women Entrepreneurs Association (NEWEA), Manipur Chapter, the four-day event aims to promote local entrepreneurship and cultural identity through exhibitions, performances, and interactive sessions.
Former Chief Minister of Manipur, Nongthombam Biren Singh, who attended the event as Chief Guest, used the occasion to underline the importance of restoring a popular government in the state. Responding to reporters on the sidelines of the event, he pointed out that even under President’s Rule, elected MLAs are allowed access to the Secretariat, but noted that “what is needed is not just access, but consultation with the people.”
He stated, “Instead of extending the President’s Rule, it is time to bring back a popular government that can listen to the people and address their concerns directly.”
The opening day of the expo featured the launch of products including Honey by Maya Industries, Cosmetics by Vegnus Health & Beauty, and Textiles dedicated to Kachai Lemon, Ukhrul. A technical session titled “Business Summit” also took place.
The programme was graced by Manoj Sharma, Assistant Director Grade-I, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, as the Guest of Honour, and Naoroibam Jugindro Singh, President of Iputhou Marjing Khubam Kanba Lup, Heingang, as the Presidential Guest.
Over the next three days, the expo will include cultural performances, a special interaction session titled “Meet the Star,” variety shows by BB Paul Special School and IDPs, musical shows, and a fashion runway powered by BK Chanu Foundation. The event is scheduled to conclude on August 9 with an award ceremony and musical renditions.
The Iputhou Marjing Expo 2025 showcases a collaborative effort between state-based organizations and national support from the Ministry of MSME, aiming to encourage sustainable economic development and inter-community dialogue in the state.
