Imphal, Sept. 16: At what could be termed as one of the rarest scene seen in today’s Manipur society, Information and Public Relation Minister Thongam Bishwajit was seen lighting up the lamp of 43rd AMWJU’s Foundation by removing his shoes.
“During our school days at Ram Lal Paul High School, we use to remove our shoes while entering to the head Master’s room as a mark of respect, the same habit allowed me to get admission at St. Anthony College Shillong in early 90s”, said a senior Journalist attending the function.
He said we Manipuri put off our shoes in public places to show our respect but with the changing of times hardly VVIPs or VIPs are seen taking of their shoes while lighting up lamps for any occasion.
Minister Bishwajit’s attitude today impressed some of the journalists who attended today’s function.
“Its like reviving our rich cultural heritage”, said another journalist to this reporter.
