IPFM urges CM to appoint new Minister for Tribal Affairs and Horticulture

Imphal, May 24:

The Indigenous People’s Forum, Manipur (IPFM) has submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, calling for the urgent appointment of a new Minister for Tribal Affairs & Hills and Horticulture & Soil Conservation.
The IPFM highlighted that since the outbreak of violence in Manipur in May 2023, these departments have been effectively paralyzed. The current minister, Letpao Haokip from the Kuki community, left Imphal in May 2023, leaving a significant void in leadership. Consequently, the development schemes and activities under these departments have come to a standstill, severely impacting the tribal beneficiaries.
The memorandum emphasized the urgent need for new leadership to revive the functioning of the Tribal Affairs & Hills and Horticulture & Soil Conservation Departments. The IPFM appealed to the Chief Minister to address this issue promptly by appointing a new minister to ensure the resumption of essential development activities and support for the tribal communities.
