INTUC to raise DA gap, job security at national meet

The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Manipur Branch, will raise several issues concerning employees and the people of Manipur, including the disparity in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR), job security, regularisation of employees and the rising prices of essential commodities, at the 316th Working Committee Meeting of the organisation in Bengaluru.

According to a statement issued by Ksh. Dwijamani Singh, Public Secretary of INTUC Manipur Branch, the organisation’s President, Yumnam Ranapratap, and Vice-President, Haobam Balesor Singh, have left Imphal to participate in the 316th Working Committee Meeting of the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) and the Working Committee Meeting of the Indian National Salaried Employees and Professional Workers Federation.

The meetings are scheduled to be held on June 28 at the KPCC Office Campus, Queen’s Road, Bengaluru, Karnataka, while the second day’s session on June 29 will take place at the Institution of Agricultural Technologists (IAT), Vasanth Nagar, Bengaluru.

The INTUC Manipur Branch said it would urge the national leadership to intervene with the Government of Manipur on issues affecting state employees and pensioners. It pointed out that employees and pensioners in Manipur are currently receiving 42 per cent DA and DR, while their counterparts under the Central Government receive 60 per cent, leaving an 18 per cent disparity.

The organisation also plans to seek intervention on matters relating to the regularisation of employees, job security and other labour welfare concerns. It further intends to highlight the steep rise in the prices of essential commodities in Manipur, which it said has placed an additional financial burden on the people.

Besides labour-related issues, the Working Committee meeting is expected to deliberate on the prevailing national political situation and discuss organisational strategies in view of the forthcoming State Assembly elections.

During the meeting, the Manipur representatives will present the concerns of employees and the general public of the state before the national leadership and seek appropriate intervention for their early resolution.

The statement noted that INTUC, founded under the leadership of Dr. G. Sanjiva Reddy, has been working for the welfare of organised and unorganised sector workers across the country for several decades.
