International Day of Sign Language observed, Minister Dingo announces Sign Language News Program

Imphal, Sept 23:

The All Manipur Association of Deaf and Mute observed the International Day of Sign Language with an event. Social Welfare Minister Heikham Dingo announced plans to introduce a Sign Language news program on local news channels to ensure accessibility for the deaf and mute community. Speaking at the event held at the Manipur Press Club, Minister Dingo shared that the department is also working on developing an application in collaboration with NIELIT within this year to enhance communication for the deaf and mute community.
During the event, the Minister emphasized that no one is perfect, and challenges are part of life. He expressed hope that people from the disabled, deaf, and mute communities will continue to contribute to society with determination. He also highlighted that this event has provided an opportunity to raise awareness about the struggles and needs of those with speech and hearing impairments.
Minister Dingo also pledged that the Social Welfare Department would work with its Director and Deputy Director to further strengthen support systems for the deaf and mute community. The event was attended by Social Welfare Department Deputy Director L. Dhaneshwor, social activist Rohan Philem, and many others.
