International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2020 held; Persons with disabilities are blessed with unique talents and capabilities: Minister O. HENRY

Minister for Social Welfare Henry Okram said that God has gifted persons with disabilities and individuals with different learning abilities with unique capabilities and talents. This was stated by him during the distribution of essential items to persons with disabilities on the occasion of International Day for Persons with Disabilities 2020 held at Social Welfare Complex, Takyel today.
Speaking on the occasion, Henry Okram said that we should recognise the capabilities and improve accessibility for persons with disabilities persons and must end all the barriers faced by them. The Minister stressed that the government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh have introduced various welfare programmes for differently abled persons such as Chief Ministergi Sotharabasingi Tengbang (CMST) etc. Such welfare scheme has given benefits to thousands of persons with disabilities, he added.
The Minister further stated that the government will launch a Skill Development Training Program for persons with disability shortly. Other new schemes or projects are also in the pipeline and will be launched soon after due consultation and approval from Hon’ble Chief Minister. To have better accessibility and communication, a new website and mobile application will be launched soon for Social Welfare Department. Any individual can lodge their grievances or problems or suggestions through website and mobile application, he added. No one should be compelled to go to offices to get and submission of forms for various schemes.
On the occasion, Director Social Welfare Ng. Uttam said that the pending financial assistance under CMST will be transferred directly to the beneficiary accounts form today. He mentioned that various awareness camps will be organized in every district to register and identify persons with disability so as to provide UDID card and disability certificate soon.
The day was also celebrated by Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Manipur. As a part of the celebration, winners of National Level Talent Hunt Programme – Voice of Specially Abled People Art contest 2020 were felicitated. Following SOP guidelines of the Government, certificates and other mementos were distributed to the winners by visiting their respective houses. The felicitation was spearheaded by Media Advisor Nimol Ningombam, Program Manager Premier Moirangthem, National Awardee L.Amarendra Sharma and Rehabilitation Officer Karnajit Khoibam.
