As part of her ongoing overseas deployment to Europe and Africa, INS Tabar undertook a maritime partnership exercise with ships of the Sudanese Navy on Friday in the Red Sea off the Sudanese coast.
Two Sudanese Navy ships, “Almazz” and “Nimer” participated in this maiden exercise with the Indian Navy. The exercise involved multiple activities covering a wide range of naval operations. These included coordinated manoeuvering, replenishment at sea drills, helicopter operations, operations for interdicting suspect vessels at sea, and communication procedures.
The exercise enhanced interoperability between the two navies significantly and widened the scope for combined operations against common maritime threats in the future. The exercise culminated with a ‘Steam Past’ between ships of the navies, as per naval customs, the official statement said.
The ship recently undertook the annual bilateral exercise Konkan with the British Royal Navy and also hoisted the national tricolour on India’s 75th Independence Day at Portsmouth Harbour.
INS Tabar (F44) (translates as “battle-axe” is the third of the Talwar-class frigate of the Indian Navy. The frigate was commissioned on April 19, 2004, in Kalinigrad, Russia with Captain (later Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta. The current Commanding Officer (CO) of INS Tabar is Captain Mahesh Mangipudi.
