Injuries sustained in land dispute; CrPc 144 imposed

Physical scuffle broke out between residents of Salungpham under Thoubal district and Ringpam village under Tengnoupal district following a dispute over a piece of land. The incident happened at around 4 pm yesterday. Many from both sides sustained injuries, and state security forces have stationed at the site of incident to prevent further violence. A case has also been taken up by Machi police regarding the incident and restrictions under CrPc 144 have been imposed in the area. K Jayentakumar, IGP Zone-1 along with Thoubal SP Dr S Ibomcha visited the place today morning and made inspections. Strict instructions were also given to the security personnel posted at the site to keep vigil. Later, at around 11am, representatives from three villages- Ringpam, Salungpham and Tollen held a discussion at the office of the Thoubal SP which was presided over by K Jayentakumar, IGP Zone-1 where a number of resolutions were taken.
According to information received, tension started between villagers of Ringpam and Salungpham over a piece of land (Salungpham Khunou also known as Santipur Khunou) lying in between the two villages. There was also an earlier agreement among the village representatives of the three villages to hold a discussion on the 31st of this month to settle the dispute.
