A mass awareness programme on the identification, protection and conservation of indigenous plants was organised on Sunday at Angaan Eco Park, Kakching, as part of the ongoing 100-day campaign launched under the theme “Yelhou Upaal Kannada Angamba Thoudang Lourasi.”
The campaign was launched on May 22 during the observance of the International Day for Biodiversity by Director of Environment and Climate Change, Manipur, Dr. T. Brajakumar in association with ADAM Kakching’s “U-wa Tharasi, U-wa Hinghallasi” initiative.
The programme, conducted alongside regular Sunday Eco Club activities, focused on creating awareness among children on the importance and conservation of indigenous plant species.
Players and volunteers of Sanjoy Football Coaching Centre, Kakching participated in the plantation drive and planted indigenous saplings at the Kshetrimayum Irabot Memorial Complex within the park campus.
As part of the campaign, the public has been urged to donate indigenous plant saplings. Supporting the initiative, Shamurailatpam Biswarup Sharma donated 13 Sanakhongnang saplings, while M. Gopi donated Wa (Unap) saplings.
ADAM Kakching Secretary and Angaan Ching Eco Park Coordinator Surjit Kshetrimayum expressed gratitude to volunteers and donors for supporting the campaign.
The campaign is being supported by the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Divisional Forest Office Thoubal, Department of Zoology, Manipur University and Kakching Public School.
