Imphal, Sept 12:
The INDIA Bloc has criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur during the ongoing crisis, calling it a “saddening” decision. K. Devabrata Singh, Working President of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, voiced his concerns during a press conference, stating that the collapse of constitutional machinery in the state has worsened the situation.
K. Devabrata Singh highlighted the severe impact of the prolonged internet ban, emphasizing how it has affected both the youth and hospital patients. “Youths who require internet for work and students whose education depends on it are suffering. The ban is crippling Manipur’s economic and education systems,” K. Devabrata Singh said. Hospitals have also faced difficulties, with medical professionals unable to access critical online services, further endangering patients.
The INDIA Bloc condemned the government’s actions, particularly the treatment of students protesting against the violence in the state. “Innocent students are being targeted,” the INDIA Bloc remarked. “Instead of addressing the root cause—attacks by unidentified armed militants—the authorities are imposing curfews and shutting down communication.”
The suspension of internet services and the imposition of curfews have triggered a wave of protests, as people struggle under restrictions that severely hamper daily life. The INDIA Bloc accused the government of mishandling the situation by suppressing peaceful demonstrations instead of focusing on stopping the escalating violence in the region.
In addition to the internal strife, the blockade of highways has further intensified the crisis. Essential supplies, including food and medicines, are not being allowed to enter the valley, exacerbating the humanitarian situation. “The ongoing blockade has created a major shortage of essentials. The government must take immediate action to resolve these issues,” the INDIA Bloc demanded.
