Incessant rains push Sekmai River above danger level

Following days of incessant rainfall including the valley areas, the Sekmai River has risen above the danger level, leading to flooding. The river, which flows through several villages in the Wabagai Assembly Constituency, has begun to overflow at Luwangtou Maril Bedamsing Khong which is inside Wabagai Turel Namei, inundating stretches of agricultural land.
The situation has been worsened by the area’s geographical vulnerability, where the Sekmai River meets the Kharung Pat, coupled with the low embankment levels. This has led to repeated instances of overflowing in recent times, compounding the hardships faced by farmers whose crops have been damaged.
Locals residing downstream of the Sekmai Barrage in Keirak have expressed concern that continued rainfall may trigger further flooding.
