Imphal Smart City: Survey conducted for widening of Sanjenthong to Minuthong road at the eastern side of Imphal River; JAC object

A joint team of the Directorate of Settlement and land record, PDA, Water resources and SDC Porompat, and Imphal Smart City today conducted survey for demarcation of land from the eastern side Nongpok Thong to Minuthong today for widening of the road stretch from Sanjenthong to Minuthong adjacent to the Imphal River at the eastern side.
As per officials of the settlement department the survey was conducted for widening of the road stretch to 12 meters from the retaining wall of Imphal River towards eastern side from Sanjenthong to Minuthong in connection with the Imphal Smart City project. DC Imphal East had issued an order on March 16 in connection with the survey and demarcation.
The road length from Sanjenthong to Minuthong is 2 Km plus 20 meters.
The survey was conducted under tight security cover of the Imphal East district police team.
JAC for Conservation of Minuthong Maning Ingkkhol, Golapatti, KR Lane, New Lambulane, Damlong , Namphanpung, Mission land , Sanjenthong Meitei Awang Leikai, said that they are not against the proposed widening of the road but they are against the acquisition of land upto 12 meters as it could lead many residents homeless.
“We demand the government to reconsider the proposal of 12-meter-wide road and decrease it to 30 feet as many residents will be left with no land if demarcated upto 12 meters”, a JAC leader told media persons on the sideline while the government authorities are conducting the survey.
