Imphal rocks over ILP issue, turns into a battle field JCILPS bandh cripples Imphal area

In an unprecedented manner the city witnessed a war-like situation on the second day of the 48 hours general strike with supporters building barricades to attack security force with slingshots.
Demanding to implement permit system to regulate non-locals in the state, the students’ wing of JCILPS called the general strike from Tuesday evening.
Supporting the general strike protestors built barricades at main junctions and roads preparing slingshot attack. Meanwhile local women bodies staged sit-in-protest at various places in Imphal demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System.
Due to the general strike normalcy has been disrupted across the state. Markets, offices and educational institutes were shut down and while all the roads leading to the city have been blocked by protestors using woods, electric poles etc.
Security forces, which were deployed at each nook and corner of the city were seen controlling the protestors. Clashes between police and general strike supporters were reported from different areas including Singjamei, Keishampat, Uripok, Keishamthong, Khagempalli and Tiddim roads.
