Imphal-Moreh road freezes during 48 hours bandh

Vehicular movement along the Imphal – Moreh Section of National Highway 102 came to grinding halt today due to the 48hrs Hill Districts bandh called by the Kuki Students ’ Organisation ( KSO ) General Headquarters in protest against brutally assaulting KSO Chandel’s President and two village chiefs by the personnel of 24 AR Khudegnthabi Check post.
Large number of Bandh supporters blocked the highway by burning of tyres and piling of tree branches, boulders as well as electric poles at several places along the road stretch.
At H. Kotlenphai near Pallel, Volunteers of the students ‘ body who enforced the bandh prohibited the Commanding Officer of 24 Assam Rifles and his escort team to proceed further by pelting stones towards them and forced them to return back from the spot.
The Bandh supporters including large number of women folks also enforced the bandh at Tengnoupal, Khudengthabi and Moreh too in Chandel District since early this morning.
Speaking to the media persons, ML Haokip, Spokesperson of KSO Chandel told that the 48hrs bandh was imposed in protest against brutally assualting our President and two Village Chiefs by the personnel of 24 Assam Rifles posted at Khudengthabi led by one Major Manish Sharma and a JCO on November 5.
He also warned that the student body will intensify our agitations if the concern authority did not take up appropriate actions against the erring personnel of the Assam Rifles and book them for their crime.
