Incessant rains in the past few days have raised all major rivers in Imphal valley running above warning level besides damaging many of the paddy field which were almost ready to ripe. The incessant rain not only put at risk to the cultivators but also caused landslide at many places including a massive sink at National Highway 2 cutting Imphal-Dimapur road.
Report reaching here said that the National Highway 2 connecting Dimapur to Imphal has been completely cut off last night by a massive landslide at Khongnem Thana, Senapati District, Manipur due to the incessant rain of the few days.
One truck belonging to the Satyam Industry has also been washed away by the Landslide.
Officials from the District Administration, Senapati led by Deputy Commissioner, Th.Kiran Kumar IAS, SDOs, SP, Senapati, Pradip Singh, IPS and PWD officials inspected the affected areas.
On inspection, the officials have recommended a new cutting around the affected areas. The completion of the new cutting is likely to take around one week.
Meanwhile the District Administration is working with the villagers for necessary compensation and assistance. Hundreds of goods carrying trucks and vehicles are stranded due to the landslide.
Meanwhile, major rivers in the state, including the Imphal River have been flowing close to the warning level due to incessant rain. The water levels of three other major rivers -Iril, Nambul, and Nambol-have also rose. Fearing breach of Imphal river bank at Singjamei area , 100 of peoples volunteers work together to prevent any breach of the banks.
Unconfirmed source said that all gates of the Imphal barrage have been opened fully as precautionary measure. A toll-free telephone number, 1070, has also been set up at the State Emergency Operation Centre.
On the other hand many paddy field which are ready for harvesting have been dipped under water at various part of valley districts in the state.
