Imphal Cine Club to resume regular film screening

Imphal, Oct 10: Imphal Cine Club has announced to resume regular film screenings in the state starting October 16. 
A press statement said that the decision was taken at a meeting of the steering committee of the Imphal Cine Club, held at Usha Cinema on 8th October, with Swarna Kamal awardee and the serving general secretary of the cine club, RK Bidur, presiding over the proceedings.
Imphal Cine Club is an affiliate body of the Federation of Film Society of India. The club proposed to revamp itself and reactivate film society movement in the state, a task which it had spearheaded for long. To its credit the Imphal Cine Club played a dominant role is inspiring the minds of the pioneers of Manipuri films , introducing classic foreign language films  to the likes of Aribam Syam Sharma, MK Binodini Devi, K. Ibohal Sharma, RK Bidur L Daoji Sharma, Khun Joykumar, W. Lalitkumar, MA Singh and many others.
Inviting all its erstwhile members as well as all film lovers and enthusiasts to support its activities, the state’s premier cine club has chosen the 1951 American epic film – ‘Quo Vadis’ (Where are you going?) – directed by Mervyn Le Roy, to resume its regular screenings and discussion of classic films.  The MGM film will be screened at the Usha Cinema on Sunday, the 16 of October, 2016 at 5:30pm sharp.
‘Quo Vadis’ unfolds in ancient Rome and deals with the conflict between Christianity and the corruption of the Roman Empire, especially in the last period of the Julio-Claudian line. The characters and events depicted are a mixture of actual historical figures and situations and fictionalized ones. The film tells the story of a Roman military commander, returning from the wars, falls in love with a devout Christian, and slowly becomes intrigued by her religion. Their love story is told against the broader historical background of early Christianity and its persecution by Nero.
Beside deliberating on revamping the cine club by going in for new, membership drives, the 8th October meeting paid homage to the  founders and members of the club who have passed away, namely MK Binodini Devi, K Ibohal Sharma,  MA Singh, W Lalitkumar, L Daoji Sharma and Khun Joykumar.
The significant meeting was attended by film scholar, L. Ram Sharma, veteran film actors, K Tomba and T. Lokendra, film enthusiast and executive member of the cine, Th Kishorchand Singh, filmmaker and president of Film Forum Manipur, L Surjakanta Sharma, national awardee filmmaker and Film Forum Manipur treasurer, Oken Amakcham, filmmaker & journalist, Sunzu Bachaspatimayum and filmmaker and general secretary of the Television & Cine Foundation Manipur, Amarjeet Maibam.
