Imphal Art Gallery is celebrating its second anniversary with a special exhibition paying tribute to the works of renowned artist Langoljam Shamu Singh. The commemorative exhibition, held at the gallery premises on Kwakeithel Airport Road, will continue until February 22, 2026.
The event honours the enduring vision and artistic legacy of Langoljam Shamu Singh, regarded as one of the pioneering figures in Manipur’s modern art movement. Born in 1937 and passing away in 2020, he was widely respected for redefining conventional artistic boundaries and for developing a distinctive personal style.
His works reflected a deep engagement with social transformation and the aesthetic life of the community, capturing the complexities of Manipur’s socio-cultural landscape on canvas. His artistic merit drew appreciation from noted artist and critic K. G. Subramanyan, who described him as one of Manipur’s distinctive creative voices.
Throughout his career, Langoljam Shamu Singh played a vital role in the fine arts movement in the state. He participated in numerous exhibitions across the country and contributed to institutional bodies such as the Standing Committee for Fine Arts and the General Council of the Manipur State Kala Akademi.
