The India Meteorological Department (IMD) centre in Imphal has issued a district-wise weather advisory forecasting thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across Manipur over the next few days.
The alert, effective from May 1, indicates heightened weather activity across the State, with more intense conditions expected between May 2 and May 3. According to the IMD, several districts are likely to experience thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph and heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Tamenglong district is expected to witness such conditions on both May 2 and May 3, while Senapati is likely to be affected on May 2. Jiribam and Noney districts may experience similar weather on May 3, along with Chandel, Churachandpur and Pherzawl districts on the same day.
Meanwhile, other districts including Imphal West, Imphal East, Ukhrul district, Kamjong, Thoubal, Kakching and Tengnoupal are likely to experience thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places during the forecast period.
The IMD stated that each daily forecast remains valid from 8:30 am IST of the specified day until 8:30 am IST of the following day.
Residents have been advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions during thunderstorms and lightning activity. The IMD has also recommended the use of its official mobile applications—MAUSAM for real-time weather updates, Meghdoot for agrometeorological advisories and Damini for lightning alerts—for location-specific information.
