Imphal, July 25: Government silence to the JCILPS demand for introduction of the Inner Line permit system is once more adding fuel to the anger of the people particularly those staying in the four valley districts of the state.
Along the National High way, supporters of JCILPS continue its drive against the influx illegal non-local workers by checking the passenger buses coming towards Imphal from Dimapur side.
Members of Advance Women Society, Awang Sekmai Protection Committee and local club members of the area has been pulling down non-local migrant workers from passenger buses and handed over to the Sekmai police since the last five days. In the last four days over 400 non local migrant workers, who failed to provide proper valid document and identity cards. Today too a total of 45 non-locals, mostly migrant workers were pulled down from passenger buses coming towards Imphal and handed over to Police.
Speaking to media persons, Heiyatur Rahman Yumkhaibam, Assistant Convenor and Organisation Secretary of JCILPS expressed dissatisfaction of the state police force for handing over of the workers to the individuals whom they were brought to the state instead of sending them back to the state that they were bought.
“JCILPS has been demanding legislation to protect the indigenous community of the state and for that the committee along with the people of the state has been spearheading democratic protest and instead of listening to the people’s demand, the government is making a mockery of the movement by handing the non-locals to the individuals they were bought”, the JCILPS representative said.
Local women folk also decried police failure to sent back those non-locals to the place where they were bought.
“We also know how to sent them back but as we respect the law of the land we are handing them over to the police so that they take action as according to the law of the land”, a woman activist said.
Meanwhile, sit-in-protest were held at various areas along the MI road in between Heirangoithong and Keishampat. Members of women meira paibis of Keishampat Moirangningthou Leirak, Keishamthong Keithel, Longjam Leirak, Elangbam Leikai, Khagempali Huidrom Leikai, Pishumthong, Haobam Marak, Ngangom Leika, Keisham Leikai and Kangjam Leikai staged sit-in-protest demonstration at their respective localities.
On the other hand, students also staged protest rally shouting slogans demanding implementation of ILPS in the state.
