ILP movement gains momentum; Kwairamband Keithel vendor ladies stage rally; Road blocked at various places

Imphal, July 28: The protest for introduction of Inner Line Permit system gains momentum today as vendor lady of Kwairamband keithel and other Meira Paibi organizations today came out to the street and staged various form of protest including road block and rally at various areas.

Vendor ladies of Kwairamband Keithel today shuts their vendor and staged a protest rally in Imphal streets. Vendor ladies gathered at around 10 am and staged a sit-in-protest at the three Ima Keithel building complex demanding introduction of ILP and protesting the police atrocities towards the students of the state. Later, at around 1.30 pm the Keithel ladies precede towards state assembly secretariat to show their anger however, police team intervene them in front of PWD office and stopped them from proceeding further. The police team later brought the ladies inside the Kwairamband keithel building and kept the situation under control.

On the other hand women meira paibis of Khumbong area today came out to the street at around 2 pm and stopped all sort of movement along the route by placing their Sarongs (Phanek) across the road. Police team who rushed the spot at around 2.30 pm had to face hardship in controlling the agitating ladies. Almost all vehicles coming along the route remained stranded due to the protest of the lady.

Various women meira paibis of different areas in Imphal also staged sit-in-protest supporting the cause for implementation of the ILP. Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Meira Paibi lup staged the protest near bailey bridge of the leikai by displaying placards demanding ILP and also condemning the atrocity by police.

Women meira paibi of various places also staged similar protest at Lamphel Sanakeithel, Wangkhei Angom Leikai, Yenkhom Leirak, Lamsang etc.

Manipur University Students Union Revival Demand Committee (MUSURDC) also staged a sit-in-protest today at the main gate of the University demanding implementation of ILP system in the state.

Speaking to media, Convenor, MUSURDC, Thokchom Suresh said despite of various agitations and protests made by many organisations and student bodies the government of the state remain still. MUSURDC strongly condemned the incident of beating innocent students by police and the body will always support in any action of agitations taken by Joint Committee Inner Line Permit System.

At around 1pm Imphal West police came and dispersed the protest and also snatched a camera from one of the students attended the protest.
