Ukhrul, Dec 11:
In a significant operation against drug cultivation, the Manipur Police and Forest Department carried out a joint operation in the hill range of Sihai Khullen village, Ukhrul. Approximately 55 acres of illegal poppy plantations were destroyed, and five makeshift huts found on the fields were burned down. An FIR has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify additional individuals involved in the illicit activity.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh praised the operation, taking to social media platform X to commend the authorities. “War on Drugs Intensifies; 45 Acres of Illegal Poppy Cultivation Destroyed,” he wrote, highlighting the collaborative efforts of the Ukhrul police, forest department, BSF, and district administration.
The operation also led to the arrest of two individuals, identified as Letkhohao Haokip (37) and Hegou Khongsai (30), who were apprehended at the site for their alleged involvement in the cultivation. The crackdown is part of the state’s ongoing “War on Drugs” campaign aimed at curbing drug production and trafficking in Manipur.
