IGTU freezes as students stage protest by shutting down Administrative Block

Imphal, April 6: Normal functioning of the Indira Gandhi tribal University was disrupted today as student body of the university went on protest against the authority’s failure to appoint a regular Director. Large number of volunteers of the University gathered in front of the University Administrative block and waited for the concern authority reply to the demand of the students’ body. However, as the authority fails to come up with appropriate reply to the demands, the students then takes out their books and burnt in front of the Administrative block. Later, the irate student shut the administrative block which is being set up temporarily at Adimjati Campus.
Speaking to the media persons president of the IGNTUSU Hemkholen Haokip said that the student union has submitted memorandum to the vice chancellor of IGNTU Amarkantak demanding appointment of regular director of the IGNTU-RCM which has remained vacant more than 3 years. Haokip also said that the student body had also submitted memorandum to shift the campus to Makhan of Sanapati besides appointment of faculty for sociology department.
Haokip further said that the student body will continue the protest until the demands are fulfilled. He said the union volunteers will shut all normal activities at botht eh temporary complex at Adim Jati as well as the at the main campus at Makhan in Senapati district.
