IGNTUSU condemns assault on Hemakanta

Imphal, August 1: The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Students’ Union (IGNTUSU) today vehemently condemns the physical assault of Elangbam Hemanta Khaba by Meira Paibis on July 29 at Koirengei. Hemanta  was allegedly assaulted by the meira paibis after he was pulled down from a tata Shaktiman truck along with 34 non local labourers on the day in relation to the agitation of the Inner Line Permit System in the state. The student union blamed the meira paibi of the area stating the assault was a part of attack to hamper the construction of the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University by some vested interested people.

In a press conference held today at Manipur press Club, the student union said that Elangbam Hemakanta Khaba is an Accountant of the Credible Engineering Construction Project Pvt. Ltd. and is engaged by the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University to construct its regional campus at Makhan. The union said that the blamed put to Hemkanta for transporting of the non-local labourers is totally baseless.

The student union further demanded clarification from the apology from the meira paibi.
