Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) currently residing in Langol Game Village Zone 3 and Zone 4 staged a protest on Thursday against an eviction order reportedly issued by the authorities.
The displaced residents, primarily from Churachandpur and Moreh, had taken shelter in the government quarters after fleeing their homes due to the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023. Over a year later, many of them remain without permanent resettlement.
Carrying placards bearing messages such as “Do not use force to evict us,” “We are victims of this crisis,” and “We are also human beings,” the demonstrators called for a compassionate and practical approach before any eviction process is initiated. Another placard read, “No means that’s why we stay at government quarters,” underscoring the desperation of their situation.
The protesters urged the government to make suitable alternative arrangements for their rehabilitation and stated that they were compelled to occupy the government quarters in the absence of any other option.
