IDP Students of Manipur University demand termination of Lecturer for alleged humiliation

Students belonging to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) community of Manipur University have submitted a memorandum to the Vice-Chancellor, demanding disciplinary action, including termination, against Nambram Amulkumar, Head of the Department of Vocational Studies and Skill Development (DVSSD).
In the memorandum, the students alleged that Amulkumar repeatedly humiliated IDP students through intimidating behavior and discriminatory remarks. They accused him of aggressively ordering students not to enter his office in what he termed “improper dresses” such as torn clothes or slippers, in a manner they described as offensive and intended to humiliate displaced students.
The students further alleged that Amulkumar made discouraging remarks suggesting that the admission of IDP students “will not be successful,” which they said directly undermined their dignity, morale, and right to education.
“Such actions are discriminatory and contradict the resolution of the Academic Council of Manipur University, which had already resolved to facilitate the admission of IDP students in view of their vulnerable situation and educational rights,” the memorandum stated.
The students claimed that Amulkumar’s behavior has created a hostile and unsafe academic environment, discouraging IDP students from exercising their rightful opportunities. They urged the University to uphold its values of inclusivity, justice, and human dignity.
Appealing for immediate action, the memorandum urged the Vice-Chancellor to “uplift the Internally Displaced Students” by taking disciplinary measures, including termination of Amulkumar’s service. “We trust that the University will safeguard the rights of all students, especially the displaced and vulnerable,” the students said.
The memorandum was signed by students from the IDP community of Manipur University and submitted for urgent consideration.
