ICAR-KVK Chandel holds field day on high-yielding rc maniphou-13 rice variety

The ICAR–Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Chandel, successfully organized a Field Day on Farmers’ Participatory Seed Production of the high-yielding rice variety RC Maniphou-13 (RCM 30) at Laiching Maipou village, Machi Block. The event, conducted under the Front Line Demonstration (FLD) programme, aimed to showcase the superior performance of the variety and promote its wider adoption among local farmers.
The programme was attended by Dr. A. Ameeta Devi, Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR–KVK Chandel, as Chief Guest, along with local leaders including M. Tomba, Chairman, Laiching Maipou Village, and Rev. D. Kodang, Pastor, Laiching Maipou Village.
Addressing the gathering, Ts. Leenda Monsang, Subject Matter Specialist (Plant Breeding), briefed farmers on the agronomic and economic advantages of RC Maniphou-13. She noted that the mid-duration variety, developed specifically for the Northeastern Hill Region, matures in 125–135 days and yields up to 60–70 quintals per hectare. The variety is known for its resistance to leaf and neck blast diseases and strong climate resilience, making it suitable for sustainable cultivation and profitable double cropping systems in Manipur.
In her remarks, Dr. A. Ameeta Devi lauded the farmers’ active participation and commitment to adopting improved technologies for sustainable agriculture. She encouraged them to continue engaging in participatory seed production to ensure wider dissemination of high-quality seeds.
A Scientist–Farmer Interaction Session followed, where KVK experts — Dr. Kl. Levish (Agronomy), Dr. K. Sonamani Singh (Agricultural Engineering), Ps. Lavid Anal (Horticulture), and Kamei Super (Farm Management) — addressed farmers’ technical queries and shared practical solutions to local farming challenges.
