IBSD Imphal organizes outreach programme on capacity building of farmers with Border Security Force

In continuation of its ongoing outreach programme, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal joined hands with Border Security Force by jointly organizing one day training programme on production of quality planting material of ginger today at the 182 BSF Camp Damodar, Imphal East, Manipur. The training programme was organized in association with Midas Touch, an environmental conservation organization based in Imphal.
Prof. Pulok Kumar Mukherjee, Director of IBSD while addressing the inaugural function briefly highlighted the mandate of the institute to the gathering. He expressed hope that the training programme will benefit the farmers to some extent and sought feedbacks from them for holding such similar programmes within the mandate of the institute. He commended the role of the Border Security Force for taking up different initiatives for the socio economic development at the community level by keeping a coherent relationship with the farmers and villagers. Shri Nitin Gupta, Commandant of 182nd battalion, BSF highlighted their different works undertaken at the community level in the field of environment and socio economic upliftment activities for the farmers and villagers. Rajkumar Tomba, Senior Director, Midas Touch and Dr. B. Debkumari, Founder, Midas Touch also attended in the inaugural function.  
The inaugural function was also attended virtually by Dr. AA Mao, Director, Botanical Survey of India and Prof. Ashwani Pareek, Executive Director of National Agri-Food Biotechnology Institute, Mohali and they shared their views on the economic potential of ginger of economy upliftment of the NE region. Prof. GA Shantibala Devi, Dean, School of Life Sciences and School of Agricultural Sciences, Manipur University also delivered her speech during the inaugural function.
During the training programme different subject matter specialists from Manipur University, Central Agricultural University, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Thoubal and other scientists of IBSD, Imphal delivered their lectures on different aspects of ginger. Prof. R.K. Dilip, Department of Horticulture, Central Agricultural University deliberated on good agricultural practices for growing organic ginger while a lively interaction was also made between Dr. M. Thoithoi Singh, Subject Matter Specialist, KVK Thoubal during his lecture on management of diseases of ginger in particular and banana and orange in general for organic crop production with practical demonstration.
Around 100 farmers from 28 villages were attended in the training programme.
