I/W CDO arrests 1 PLA cadre; recovers huge cache of arms and ammunitions during the last 36 hours

A team of Imphal West Commando recovered huge catch of arms and ammunitions in series of counter insurgency operation conducted at different places of Imphal West area during the last 36 hours. Source from the police department said that a team of Imphal West CDO led by its OC P. Sanjoy while conducting frisking at Singjamei Supermarket area on Friday evening arrested a cadre of PLA identified as one Lairikyenbam Somarendra @ Kenedy (age about 38), son of L Ibungobi of Phaknung Makha Leikai under Lamlai Police station. The police source said the cadre is holding the rank 2nd Lt. of PLA (RPF) and work for the RPF Division 12 Secretary under the supervision of one Jackey Chiru, Secretary, Minority Cell RPF. On interrogation the cadre reportedly revealed the hide out of some of some arms and ammunitions of the outfit at Phaknung area. The police team on that evening (Friday) went to the place and recovered 2 Chinese hand grenades and one 9 MM Pistol along with a magazine with 15 live bullets. On further interrogation the cadre reportedly told another hide out of the party’s arms and ammunitions at Uran Chiru Village under Irilbung Police station. The police CDO team on Saturday evening went to the village and recovered 2 AK-56 riffles with 4 magazines, 2 Chinese Hand Grenade and one laptop. Further interrogation on the cadre revealed more hide out of the arms and ammunitions and Police Commando team recovered another 2 AK-56 rifles from Ingourok under Yairipok Police station. The operation conducted under the supervision of under the supervision Th. Bikramjit, Additional SP (Ops) Imphal West, lasted till yesterday midnight and is expected to continue more.
Meanwhile, troops of the 30 Assam Rifles and 40 Assam Rifles alongwith Imphal East Police Commandos apprehended one arms smuggler on Dec 5 in a joint operation conducted in the general area Thiyam Konjin Makha Leikai. The apprehendee was identified as Mujibur Rehman alias Ithem, aged 32 yrs, S/o Md Abdul, resident of Usoipok Tharaorok near Waithou. He revealed that he was involved in smuggling of pistols to various VBIGs. One 9mm pistol along with two magazines and a mobile phone with two SIM cards were recovered from his possession. The apprehendee alongwith the recovered items has been handed over to the Irilbung Police Station.
At another incident, another team of I/W CDO arrested 3(three) active members of United Revolutionary Front (URF) organisation, ( a breakaway group of KCP), identified as Salam Keshorjit Meitei @ Manja (35) yrs S/o S. Samungou Meitei of Khurai Salanthong,  Khundrakpam Biren Meitei @ Manao (22) yrs S/o (L) Kh. Ingocha Meitei of Sairemkhul Mayai Leikai and   Wangkhem Shyamkanhai Singh @ Wareppa (35) yrs S/o (L) W. Heramot Singh of Naranshena Maning Leikai from Sairemkhul Mayai Leikai on Dec 4. Police PRO said that they were assigned to serve monetary demands to various businessmen in Imphal area especially gas agencies located at Imphal West district. One Access Scooter bearing registration No. MN01M/9481, registered in the name of Salam Shamungou Meitei, along with incriminating articles were seized from their possession.
