In a major breakthrough, security forces recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition and apprehended seven suspected cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People’s War Group (KCP-PWG) during a coordinated cordon and search operation in Heirok, Thoubal district, in the early hours of Saturday.
The intelligence-based operation was carried out jointly by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Manipur Police from 1:00 a.m. to 3:30 a.m. on April 20. Combined teams comprising the CRPF Sector Quick Action Team (QAT), Imphal Range QAT, QAT units of 69, 86, and 109 Battalions, Detachment-66, one platoon each from the 99 and 103 Rapid Action Force (RAF), and civil police commandos took part in the operation. The entire mission was spearheaded by the CRPF’s Imphal Range under the overall supervision of the CRPF’s Manipur and Nagaland Sector.
According to official reports, the operation led to the seizure of a significant cache of arms and war-like stores, along with the apprehension of the following seven individuals suspected to be associated with the KCP-PWG are Tinku (28), son of Waikhom Ranjit Singh, resident of Khurai, Imphal East, Riwas (41), son of Rafique, resident of Porompat, Imphal East,
H. Geetchandra (15), son of Buddhi Chandra Huidrom, resident of Yumnam Huidrom, Imphal West, Angombobi (33), son of Angamimo Singh, resident of Nongda, Ningthoujam Chaoba Singh (38), son of Ningthoujam Kulabidhu Singh, resident of Thongju, Imphal East, Leisangthem Tomba Singh (25), son of L. Dasu Singh, resident of Thoubal and Md. Sirajuddin (45), son of Md. Ito, resident of Phoudel Moirangpurel, Imphal East
The seized arms and ammunition include one Insas LMG with silencer, two Insas rifles with silencers, one carbine with silencer, one Chinese AK (MA3 MAK-II) with silencer, and various magazines for the recovered firearms. In addition, 76 rounds of 5.56 mm INSAS ammunition, 69 rounds of 9 mm, and several other live rounds were also recovered.
Other items seized from the site include 13 mobile phones, three radio sets with chargers, handwritten materials, KCP (PWG) insignia, a blank SBI cheque, a scooty, a Chevrolet Beat car bearing registration number MN01S 6442, uniforms, shoes, Nepali and Indian currency, Aadhaar and identity cards, a driving licence, and other miscellaneous materials suspected to be linked with underground activities.
The seized materials and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to the civil police for further investigation and necessary legal proceedings.
Authorities believe the operation has dealt a significant blow to insurgent networks operating in the region. A CRPF official stated that such operations reflect the force’s steadfast commitment to restoring peace and maintaining law and order in Manipur.
