Huge cache of arms, ammo recovered near Heirok

Imphal, April 25: Several arms and ammunition were recovered by security personnel during a combined search operation carried out in general area of Salungpham and Nongpok Sekmai under Heirok police station early morning today.
According to sources, the search which was based on specific input about movement of underground cadres in the area fed by the Field G Team, BSF, was carried out jointly by the teams of FGT, B Coy CI, Wangjing Tekcham post of 54 Bn BSF and Heirok police station. The search in the suspected area was carried out between 4 am and 6.30 am during which police and the troops of 54 Bn BSF recovered war like items of arms and ammunition.
The haul included five live lethod shells, 28 live rounds of 7.62 mm, five live rounds of .38 mm, one live round of 5.56 mm, one US made pistol, five pieces of PEK each weighing approximately 350 grams, five pieces of safety fuse and 35 detonators.
A FIR was lodged in connection with the case and the recovered items have reportedly been handed over to Heirok Police Station.
