Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam calls for inclusive development

Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam today called for greater inclusion and empowerment of persons with disabilities, stating that they possess unique abilities and can make significant contributions to society when provided with equal opportunities.

The Home Minister was speaking at Purple Fest 2026 held at Ningthoukhong Higher Secondary School in Bishnupur district. The event was organized under the administrative control of the Swami Vivekanand National Institute of Rehabilitation Training and Research (SVNIRTAR), Cuttack, Odisha, in collaboration with the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, and the Composite Regional Centre for Skill Development, Rehabilitation and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (CRCSRE), Imphal.

Addressing the gathering, Govindas Konthoujam said the world is progressing rapidly and persons with disabilities should be active participants in this process of development. He noted that every individual is endowed with unique strengths and talents, and society should recognize ability rather than focus on disability.

The Minister observed that opportunities for education and social participation for persons with disabilities have improved significantly over the years. He stressed the need to further strengthen support systems to ensure that differently-abled persons can pursue their aspirations and contribute meaningfully to society. He also called upon the public to promote inclusiveness and dignity for all.
